What is VWAP?

Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) is the average price an instrument has traded at throughout the day, weighted by volume. Institutional traders use VWAP as a benchmark for fair value — prices above VWAP suggest bullish bias, prices below suggest bearish.

Session VWAP

VWAP Ultimate Pro supports Daily, Weekly, and Monthly VWAP anchoring. Session VWAP resets at the beginning of each period and accumulates throughout, giving you a running fair-value reference.

Anchored VWAP

Manual anchoring lets you place VWAP from any specific bar — a swing high, earnings release, or any significant event. This gives you a volume-weighted reference from that exact moment forward.

Sigma Deviation Bands

Standard deviation bands around VWAP act as dynamic support and resistance. 1-sigma contains roughly 68% of price action, 2-sigma covers ~95%. These bands expand and contract with volume, giving you volatility-adjusted levels.

Smart Alerts

Configure alerts for VWAP crosses, band touches, and band breakouts. Get notified when price interacts with key VWAP levels without watching the chart constantly.

Practical Usage

  • Use Daily VWAP for intraday bias
  • Use Weekly/Monthly VWAP for swing bias
  • Anchor from significant events for context
  • Treat sigma bands as dynamic S/R
  • Combine with other Dovar tools for a complete workflow

Building a usable VWAP workflow

Most intraday traders do not need more VWAP lines. They need one primary session reference, a small number of meaningful anchors, and alerts that only fire at decision points.

  • Use daily VWAP for same-session bias and fair-value tracking.
  • Add weekly or monthly context only when the higher-timeframe auction still influences your execution.
  • Reserve manual anchors for events that genuinely reset participation, such as breakouts, range failures, or major news-driven turns.

Combine context with confirmation

Session VWAP gives bias, anchored VWAP gives event context, and deviation bands show stretch. If you also monitor participation with CDV Candle Engine Pro, reactions around VWAP become easier to classify as continuation, rejection, or simple noise.

How to turn this guide into a MetaTrader workflow

Use this article as an implementation brief, not as a promise of trading performance. The practical value is clearer when signals, risk rules, execution limits, monitoring and alerts are written as separate responsibilities before anything runs on MT4 or MT5.

The practical takeaway is: Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) is the average price an instrument has traded at throughout the day, weighted by volume. Institutional traders use VWAP as a benchmark for fair value — prices above VWAP suggest bullish bias, prices belo…
